đź’ˇ Big Changes to BC’s RAP & SAFER Programs Starting April 1, 2025
The Province of British Columbia is making housing more affordable for thousands of renters with expanded eligibility and boosted benefits for the Rental Assistance Program (RAP). If you’re a low-income family, this could mean more money in your pocket—and easier access to support.
🏡 RAP Just Got a Major Upgrade for Families
If you’re a family with kids and need help with rent, check out what’s new:
✅ Income Limit Raised – Now open to families earning up to $60,000/year before taxes (previously $40,000).
➡️ This change nearly doubles the number of families eligible—from 3,200 to around 6,000!
✅ Bigger Monthly Benefits – Average support has increased from $400 to $700/month.
✅ Market-Based Updates – Rent ceilings (which help determine your subsidy) will now be reviewed annually to reflect real-world rent prices.
✅ No Employment Requirement – Families don’t need to be working to qualify. If you’re between jobs or receiving disability assistance, you might still be eligible.
📝 Reminder: All existing RAP clients must reapply every year to continue receiving support.
